The wisest man who ever lived summed up a human's lot in Ecclesiastes 2:23: "All his days his work is pain and grief..." Yet grief is not something to be dreaded. The Bible says that God grieves. Because we are in his image, we too must grieve. Grief is not only a good medicine, it is necessary for our very salvation.
God is not fair. Only the naive want him to be fair. If he gave us exactly what we deserved, we would all be in deep trouble. D. James Kennedy, in his book Truths that Transform, said that instead God is super fair. He doesn't give us all the bad things we do deserve, but he does give us a lot of good things we don't deserve.
It’s very easy to hop into the car called anger, gun the engine, and take off down the road of wrathful destruction. Unfortunately, this is a car that doesn’t seem to have any brakes and herein lies the danger of a furious heart. In our text today we find that grace is the brakes. Grace keeps the furious heart from wrathful destruction. How? Listen in.
Whether it is in the realm of government, church, or the home, each one of us knows the struggle of submission. David knew the struggle as well as any of us, and yet out of obedience to God he submitted to Saul as king. Where do we find the power to submit when our authorities are unkind, selfish, or just plain wrong? To get the submissive heart of a lamb, you must submit your heart to The Lamb.
