We live in times as scary as those faced by a dying king 3,000 years ago or a city on the verge of anarchy 2,000 years ago. The level of angst in America, in the wake of last week’s Health Care legislation, is palpable. Rocker Sean Lennon said in an MTV interview, “We are teetering on the precipice of uncertainty as we look desperately into the future for some hope.” I have some good news for you on this Palm Sunday. There is hope. A king is coming to Jerusalem.
Dr. Kent Hughes insightfully explores Jesus' healing of the paralytic and his subsequent reaction to the teachers of the law in Mark 2:1-12. Jesus poses the question, "Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up, take your mat and walk'?" Be encouraged in your faith as Dr. Hughes brings to light the deeper issue in this passage.
Isaiah 2:3 predicts, "Many peoples will come and say, 'Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.' The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem." As our hearts are willing to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, the nations are waiting to hear.
