No one ever challenged the reasoning of God more than the Old Testament prophet Habakkuk. In this delightful and perplexing book of the Bible, we watch a man debate God. At every turn God frustrates him with his logic. Finally, all he could say was, "The just shall live by faith." In the end, that's all any of us can do. Heaven is beyond our grasp. But faith is found in wrestling through perplexing prayers.

It was the craziest strategy in the annals of warfare. Military historians still stand amazed at the audacity of King Jehosaphat. Desperation will drive a cornered king to try anything. It seemed that the whole Middle East had risen against Israel. A coalition of nations had assembled a mega force to wipe God's people off the map. There was no way that the Jews could compete on this battlefield. But King Jehosaphat had the ultimate ace up his sleeve: his God was infinitely bigger than the largest army ever assembled in the Orient. He put his temple choirs at the head of his tiny army. As they marched out singing their praises, the enemy armies collapsed in chaos and confusion. It was the only time in history that a choir won a war without a shot ever being fired. Praise is the most powerful weapon of all for kingdom warriors.

Nothing debilitates and neutralizes kingdom warriors like sin and broken relationships. David's exploits as a warrior were the stuff of legends. Not even the biggest giants on earth could bring him down. But his lusts proved fatal because he was a he-man with a she-weakness. After he sinned with Bathsheeba, his life spiraled out of control, his family disintegrated, and his nation was plunged into civil war. The truth is: even the best of warriors fall in battle. Winston Churchill said, "All my victories are built on a solid foundation of failures." The issue isn't whether we will fail, but if we will fail forward. Winning battles in spiritual realms against spiritual forces requires spiritual power produced by spiritual prayer. Certainly, the First Church of Jerusalem had to discover that truth. All hell broke loose the day the Apostles were dragged before a kangaroo court. The authorities who had instituted that "witch hunt" told them that if they didn't stop preaching, they would crush the followers of Jesus. When the Apostles reported these death threats, the church went into action by praying powerful prayers.
